My studio in Sausalito, California In March 2007 I started a blog while waiting for some children to come home from school in Omaha, Nebraska. Check my archives for those humorous essays. Now I'm going to try and stick to art. I paint every day in my small studio in Sausalito California. Our building used to be a Liberty Ship building site during World War II but for thirty years the ICB Building has been home to about 90 artists. Suddenly we are getting organized and 'going public' with new events, newsletters and more. It's great for location on the Sausalito waterfront and for as much or as little art comraderie as you would like. I hope to chronicle the progress of my paintings. Each painting sold keeps me from going to work for one more month. NEXT EVENT: PRIVATE SHOWING JULY 24TH 4-7 PM. RSVP Sherry Miller
I've been painting images of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow since 1976 when I handpainted a black and white xeroxed drawing of the church and mailed it for a Christmas card. I visited St. Basil's in 1986 and again in 1989. Last year I decided to paint this wonderful church again, and then do a series of famous buildings. My second choice was San Marco in Venice, perhaps because I found a drawing I made when I was 19 sitting in the Piazza San Marco. I don't know what the next building will be.
"St. Basil's Cathedral." Oil on canvas. 36" x 36" Artist: Sherry Miller

"Piazza San Marco." Oil on canvas. 36" x 36" Artist: Sherry Miller
And the little ink drawing from a table in the Piazza.
After receiving a commission for another painting of St. Basil's that is 20" x 20" instead of the original which is 36" x 36", I created two new paintings so the client would have a choice. Here are the two new St. Basil's paintings. The first one is for sale now. Please contact me for purchase and shipping information.
I'm in Nebraska but I brought my miniature paintings with me. My daughter has large beautiful paintings of mine here in her house. These remind me of years of painting in Maine where she grew up.
Email me to purchase one of these little gems ... $35 + $2.50 shipping. I'll be posting more.
For Open Studios I spackled and painted my walls and, with studio mates, had the chocolate brown walls in the hall and the rest of the studio painted white. I then hung just one row of small paintings instead of covering the walls with my usual 36"x36" oils. The new arrangement worked out well; people looked at all the pictures and they purchased more than I expected. (Yes that was a bottle of tequila for guests and artists!)
